Wine tasting in the Hunter Valley

Thursday

Had an early start as a few hours drive down to the Hunter Valley for the much anticipated wine tour. We went for breakfast at flynns beach, one of the southern beaches in Port Macquarie for breakfast at the surf club. It was a small surf club but busy with locals and lots of surfers, bit of a stroke of luck as a gem of a beach and great value breakfast.

Miranda drove the 3 hour drive to Cessnock, we had our usual ritual of listening to Bastille Pompeii and singing our little hearts out. I also started typing up my Aussie to English dictionary, see picture! We picked up the 2 fat blokes wine tour at 1.30 from the campsite, which turned out to be just me and Miranda with Jan, one of the owner fat blokes. We got carried away with wine ordering as they were all so nice, especially at the champagne tasting, where we had a charismatic Aussie serving us ;) we got a couple of bottles to enjoy in Sydney, one being a sparking merlot, different but very tasty, especially the expensive ones! We were taken to the smallest vineyard for an afternoon tea where we bought more wine to enjoy at the campsite and got some pasta to cook up. The lady in the last place was really handy giving us tips for Melbourne as she lived there recently. Wine tasting was such good fun and I learnt a bit about what I like and don't like, I think we might try and do another one in the Yarra or Mornington when in Melbourne.

After we got back to the campsite a little tipsy and played on the jumping pillow (it was right next to our camper van...) we were too tipsy and tired to cook so went to the campsite Thai restaurant for dinner. It was yummy and BOYB so we took a bottle of our new wine.

I could tell Miranda was tired as she was chilly and the last thing she said was the campsite smelled of koalas before falling asleep....she loves a koala!!

Love Nikki xXx
